I am excited to say that my Facebook feed reminded me of a memory. One year ago today, I posted a link to Polly Plum’s Lotus Moon crocheted afghan pattern, writing that I was going to put away my quilting fabrics and try my hand at crochet. Here I am today, a year later, posting a blog with pictures of three projects that I am making, or have made, WITHOUT patterns. I’m out there crocheting without a net and it’s marvelous!
First, I would like to show you the baby blanket I completed a few weeks ago for my friend’s newborn. Ta-da!
I made the main part of the blanket with a shell stitch in Caron’s Simply Soft “Robin’s Egg Blue.” To me, though, it always appears to be a minty green. I then made a frame of circles in white, brown and emerald green, (Caron’s Simply Soft Cool Green.)
I wanted the blanket to be an homage to mint chocolate chip ice cream, and I hope that the circled border gives it a sort of funky retro look. It turned out super soft and I think Mom, Dad and baby were pleased!
Part of the reason I have not posted much this summer is because I have been trying to be more physically active and also started doing yoga again. In our small apartment where space is hard to come by, I decided I needed somewhere to store my yoga mat and thought to myself, “Hey! I can crochet that!”
This yoga mat bag incorporates all of my favorite colors, including Red Heart Super Saver’s “Grape Fizz” variegated yarn.
Last but not least, I am currently working on a psychedelic-colored flower shawl.
I hope to show you pictures of the Nuts About Squares afghan in my next post. I would say I am about 75% finished, and hope to have it done by Christmas. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer!
